A few conversations as of late:
While Eleanor is laying on the floor with her swaddle unzipped...
Adde: I'm going to put her toes in. How about that mommy?
We are having lunch. She gets one mini cupcake. She notices the plastic cupcake container from the grocery store that has sprinkles in it and starts eating sprinkles.
Adde: I'm eating some medicine.
Me: What? You're having medicine?
Adde: Yes, I'm having pills. Just like Mimi.
Me: Oh.
Adde: Does she take pills when she's sad?
Me: No honey. She takes vitamins just like Eleanor and mommy. (I suddenly realize that she does not take vitamins.) Maybe we should get some vitamins for you too.
Adde is getting a diaper change, and starts kicking her legs at me...
Me: Adde, do you think you're being nice when you kick me?
Adde: Yeah.
Me: Um, try again.
Adde: Was it a sad thing mommy?
(Can you tell she is trying to figure out what is nice verses "sad"?)
While singing a random song to Eleanor, I'm singing "the wheels on the bus go clickety-clack, clickety-clack, clickety-clack"...
Adde: Mommy, no. The wheels on the bus don't go clickety-clack.
Me: Oh, you're right. Do they go round and round?
Adde: No mom. It's the wheels on the TRAIN that go clickety-clack. (She's right. That is how the song goes in our kid's song book.)
While putting her to bed, we always ask who she wants to pray for. Most often it is our friends who are in South Africa right now. This particular night, she just had a break down because I would not read a third book - the potty training book. I promised to read the book in the morning.
Me: Adde, it's time to pray now. Are you ready to pray?
Adde: Yes. (in the midst of sobs)
Me: Who should we pray for tonight?
Adde: I want you to figure it out.
For the record, the first thing she told Mark in the morning was that mommy only ready two books last night. She'll read the potty book now.
Let's just say we are constantly entertained.
