Thankful

We have been so thankful of the warmer weather this week - in the 60s!  Amazing for a fall in Minnesota.  So we enjoyed a day at the park, which might be our last trip for a while.  We also bought a new lens for the camera and have been experimenting with that.  Mark is waaaaaay better at it than I am.

Family Fun Day

We are trying to be more intentional about having a family fun day - when projects are put aside, no cleaning can occur, and watching football games is prohibited. Just time to spend together as a family and have fun. Unfortunately, Eleanor slept through most of the fun, but soon enough she will join in.

This week we collected rocks and painted them like ladybugs.

Adde did help paint. Can you tell?

I guess Eleanor did participate too because when the bugs were dry, they were all lined up beside her play mat thanks to big sister.

If Eleanor can have a turn,

Fun with Mom

Pink fingers and toes! Someone hasn't quite grasped the concept of fingernails and toenails.

Discovered...

that our pretend electric toothbrush noise for Adde makes Eleanor smile.  If it allows us to brush Adde's teeth with less resistance and makes baby smile, then it's worth it.

Adde had a little lamb

and lamb.

Lots of animal kisses...

Towers are so yesterday...

Instead of repeatedly building towers, lately Adde has moved on to building furniture.

A chair for Teddy...
A crib for Ella...
etc...
And below, a new bed for her and Teddy....

Fun in the kitchen & Adde's new obsession

During Mindy and the "im's" visit (im's = Tim + Kim), Adde had great fun helping her Aunts in the kitchen... baking cookies, prepping meals, but most importantly making coffee.

Previously Adde loved to pretend she was haing coffee after Mimi's visits (Mimi insists on drinking the fake/gross instant stuff) and always wants Lana to wash out her paper coffee cups from Caribou.....

However, the obsession hit a whole new level when Aunt Mindy broke out the coffee maker and let her help. Our coffee maker hasn't been out for few years since I get free coffee at work (plus its typically already made when I get there.), so Adde had never seen it before.

As you can see in the picture, Mindy also let her play with a real coffee cup. Now Adde insists on having a real coffee cup to drink from every day. She has spent numerous hours at the counter and at the dinning room table 'drinking' from her coffee cup.

"Adde's Funny"

A few conversations as of late:

While Eleanor is laying on the floor with her swaddle unzipped...
Adde:  I'm going to put her toes in.  How about that mommy?

We are having lunch.  She gets one mini cupcake.  She notices the plastic cupcake container from the grocery store that has sprinkles in it and starts eating sprinkles.
Adde:  I'm eating some medicine.
Me:  What?  You're having medicine?
Adde:  Yes, I'm having pills.  Just like Mimi.
Me:  Oh.
Adde: Does she take pills when she's sad?
Me:  No honey.  She takes vitamins just like Eleanor and mommy.  (I suddenly realize that she does not take vitamins.)  Maybe we should get some vitamins for you too.

Adde is getting a diaper change, and starts kicking her legs at me...
Me:  Adde, do you think you're being nice when you kick me?
Adde:  Yeah.
Me:  Um, try again.
Adde:  Was it a sad thing mommy?
(Can you tell she is trying to figure out what is nice verses "sad"?)

While singing a random song to Eleanor, I'm singing "the wheels on the bus go clickety-clack, clickety-clack, clickety-clack"...
Adde:  Mommy, no.  The wheels on the bus don't go clickety-clack.
Me:  Oh, you're right.  Do they go round and round?
Adde:  No mom.  It's the wheels on the TRAIN that go clickety-clack.  (She's right.  That is how the song goes in our kid's song book.)

While putting her to bed, we always ask who she wants to pray for.  Most often it is our friends who are in South Africa right now.  This particular night, she just had a break down because I would not read a third book - the potty training book.  I promised to read the book in the morning.
Me:  Adde, it's time to pray now.  Are you ready to pray?
Adde:  Yes. (in the midst of sobs)
Me:  Who should we pray for tonight?
Adde:  I want you to figure it out.
For the record, the first thing she told Mark in the morning was that mommy only ready two books last night.  She'll read the potty book now.

Let's just say we are constantly entertained.

2 Months

Wow...she's two months old and becoming more opinionated!

A few stats about our 2 month old:
  • 9 lbs. 14 oz. and 21 in. long.  She's a peanut.
  • Has been sleeping through the night for a few weeks - typically 10-11 hours.  Glorious!
  • Still enjoys the swaddle when sleeping.
  • Smiles quite frequently, especially when getting her out of the crib.  Daddy finally got to see her smile when she was smiling at a friend from small group...oops.
  • Starting to make some cooing sounds and communicate.
  • Tracks her sister all the time with her eyes.  Perhaps as a safety concern??
  • Does not really enjoy playing patty-cake with Addelynn.
  • Is only eating from mommy.  Bottle feeding boot camp starts tomorrow night - please pray for us!
  • Has captured our hearts already.  She's a keeper.

What we've been doing...

with Eleanor:
Talking on the phone,

taking her picture,
giving her lots of hugs,
and helping her go shopping.
Sisters are soooo much fun.
